Recently our governor signed Senate Bill 2138, the Snow Removal Service Liability Limitation Act, into law. The Accredited Snow Contractor Association’s model legislation, pushed for during the process by both ASCA and ILCA, will have a dramatic impact on contracts and insurance premiums for snow and ice management contractors.
The state of Illinois was first to pass the model legislation, 15 months after introduction. ILCA explains that the bill makes agreement language passing liability from the property owner or managers to the snow/ice contractor, null, and void in Illinois. There are many impacts of this legislation, and we can look forward to upcoming ASCA & ILCA education on this important topic. Look for a detailed article on the bill and how it came to play in an upcoming issue of the The Landscape Contractor magazine.
