Martin’s FINN Open House a Great Success!

James Loneman gives a presentation to a packed house in Orland Park

First off we’d like to thank everyone that made it out to our FINN open houses this week!  We had a great turn out at both the Orland Park and South Elgin sessions and the response from event-goers has been very positive.  We’re already planning future open houses so stay tuned!

There was a lot of information given at the event so we’d like to recap some of the finer points that our FINN rep (and erosion control expert) James Loneman gave us.  James knows his stuff forward and back so we like to pick his brain from time to time.  Here are some of the highlights from his talk:

  • Hydroseeding is the process of combining seed, mulch, fertilizer and additives with water to create a slurry, which is then applied onto the growing area.  This helps create the ideal environment for seed germination and growth.
  • There are MANY additives available from FINN, from tackifiers to moisture retainers, and choosing the right additives depends on your growing conditions.  FINN also offers the HydroBlend 600, which is an “all-in-one” solution that combines tack, fertilizer, moisture retainer, seed germinator and soil treatment in one package.
  • The #1 operator error with hydroseeders is not purging the machine’s lines.
  • The #2 operator error is over-agitation of mulch mix.  You should have your throttle about halfway in the forward position.  Having it full throttle will cause over-agitation.
  • Hydroseeding has a number of benefits over straw blankets including cost, higher quality seed mix, and worker safety (you don’t have to send guys up on a slope with a hydroseeder).

We got our first look at the brand new BB5-Series bark blower

The open house also covered bark blowers, which work great for landscapers and park districts, but can also be used to fill an erosion control sock, which are a cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternative to silt fences.  They’re also easier to install and prevent pooling on job sites.

All in all it was a great open house.  We even got to see the brand new BB5-Series bark blower in action!  Thanks again to those that came out – we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Please let us know what you thought about the event in the comments below, and let us know if you’d like us to cover any other products or topics in the future!
