Now that Spring is here we’re bringing back our aerating recap. Enjoy!
The Toro 30 inch stand-on aerator is one of several options when it comes to choosing aerating equipment Aerating (or aerifying) is a simple but critical step in lawn care, and when you do it is just as important as how you do it. With the ground largely thawed, it’s not too early book an aerator rental.
What aeration does is give your lawn a chance to rejuvenate itself after a year of wear and tear. Sports fields and heavily trafficked areas suffer the worst of it, but all lawns experience compaction to some degree, and that damage can hamper oxygen delivery to the roots of your lawn. Aerating is a good way to give those roots a chance to breathe and soak up vital nutrients.
You can use a spike-roller, but most experts agree that a core-aerator is the better way to go. A spike-roller forces the compacted ground further into the soil rather than removing it while a core-aerator pulls the topsoil out of the ground in “plugs” and yields the greatest results. If you’re using a core-aerator be sure to leave the plugs on the lawn – they’ll break up and return to the soil along with all of their important components. They also help with thatch decomposition!
For many people, renting an aerator makes the most sense so give our Rental Department a call to book a rental. If you’re a first-timer, be sure to avoid sprinkler heads, underground lines, large stones and shallow tree roots, all of which can do serious damage to you and the machine. Now get out there and get that lawn back in shape!

Do you stock parts for your mower fleet? Many people do, but some folks worry about stocking parts they won’t need. They don’t want to “gamble” on inventory, so instead they wait until something breaks before heading out to the store to buy. We see advantages and disadvantages on both sides, but one major flaw in not buying ahead is this: you’ll miss out on pre-season discounts! Continue reading
This time of year get’s us thinking about winter storage. If you’ve got lawn equipment like a mower or 2-cycle hand tools you need to winterize your equipment before storing it. A few simple steps will go a long way to making sure your equipment is ready to roll next spring. Here are some tips from our in-shop experts:
It might sound crazy to be thinking about cold weather in early August, but getting your fall lawn care planned out now means you can sit back and relax when the leaves turn and football is on the TV. You’ve got a lot of options when it comes to aerating and re-seeding your lawn, so we thought we’d try and help you decide which is best for you.
Late August and early September are the best times of the year to aerate and re-seed your lawn because the temperature is just right and the moisture level is perfect for seed germination. If you do a little prep now, your grass is going to thank you later by coming back green and healthy next spring.
There are three common things that you can do to get your lawn in top shape right now: aeration, overseeding and top-dressing. Each method has its own benefits and when they’re combined the results are top-notch. Continue reading
