Meet the Martins: Tom Novak, Company President, Volunteer Coach

Meet the Martins is a chance for our friends and customers to get to know our company a little better.  We’re committed to our customers, but we have lives outside of work, too!  To kick this segment off, we’ll head straight to the top with company president, Tom Novak.

Martin Implement Sales Company PresidentAs head of the company, Tom spends most of his days making sure we’re running at peak performance.  As a volunteer track and cross-country coach for nearby Carl Sandburg High School, he spends time making sure young athletes are running at their best come race day.

An alumni of Sandburg and a runner himself, Tom came aboard as a volunteer coach in 2010.  “It’s been a fantastic experience working with the kids,” says Tom.  “I’m grateful to Coach John O’Malley for giving me an opportunity to help with the team.  I think I’m learning as much from the kids as they are from me.  It’s been very rewarding”.

Recently the boys track team traveled to the Illinois State Meet, where the 4×800 meter relay squad was especially successful.  After shattering the school record in the preliminary round (a time of 7:46.57), they earned All-State medals by placing 4th in the finals.

Tom is looking forward to the cross country season in the Fall.  “Summer training is already underway.  It looks like we will have another very strong season in 2012,” says Tom.
