It’s mid-summer and the ground work is plentiful…but why has it rained so much this season in our area? And why the cooler-than-average temps? The answer lies with El Niño, which has steadily strengthened over the past month according to AccuWeather’s Brett Anderson. Agweb.com notes that El Niño arrival was slow to develop, and now is coming on strong. But what about the three-month weather outlook for the Midwest?
El Niño findings have had a major influence on the NOAA’s three-month outlook which covers July through September 2015. It suggests what we’re seeing and what we’ve seen: parts of the U.S. interior, including here around Illinois, with lower-than-normal temps, and above-normal precipitation through parts of the Corn Belt.
